Like an action sequence in an old 1950s sci-fi flick, you defend the U.S. capital and its monuments from flying saucers (replete with Tesla-like death rays). The graphics are quite detailed for an early C64 game, but with only three screens, you could almost call the whole thing a graphics demo with a shooting game tacked on.

What makes Saucer Attack more than a mere demo is its point system. Miss a shot or fail to defend a monument and the aliens gain points. Successfully take down one of the trickier saucers, you'll gain some points and the aliens lose points. If you can achieve a score of 150 before the aliens gain 50, you'll have a chance to take out the mothership.

Great graphics and decent replay value make this game easy to recommend. However, for whatever reason, playing Saucer Attack via emulation is incredibly slow. For now, it plays best on the real deal only.
