Rygar was one of the first NES games I played (along
with Elevator Action and Super Mario Bros).
An action/adventure game with both overhead and side-scrolling
levels, Rygar adds several twists to the formula
with RPG style experience points and non-linear level
design requiring Metroid-like exploration. The
music is some of the best heard on the NES, both in terms
of composition and orchestration. Some of the jumps in
the game can be tricky, but overall Rygar is more
of a thinking man's game, requiring strategy over hand-eye
coordination. One of the better classic NES games.
