Feeeesh! Puyo Puyo is a battle puzzle
game similar to Dr. Mario and Super
Puzzle Fighter II Turbo, in that there are always
two players even if one is a computer opponent. There
are two sides with falling blobs. The blobs fall in sets
of two, usually of different colors. If one blob lands,
the other can separate and continue to fall. Blobs are
cleared when four matching colors connect, and if one
side clears a combination of blobs, the other side has
annoying clear blobs fall on it.
Puyo Puyo has been released for various
systems and even localized as Kirby's Avalanche
and Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine
(no relation to the George Foreman Grill!) in the US.
A proper Puyo Puyo
game wasn;t released domestically until until much later.
Puyo Puyo CD for the Turbo Grafx CD,
is a great version of the game, with fun and colorful
graphics, silly yet catchy music and hilarious cut scenes
(with voice over) of the different computer opponents.
The "fishman guy" just cracks me up.
If you like puzzle games and cartoony Japanese humor,
I highly recommend it. I also recommend Puyo Puyo
CD as a fun and inexpensive Turbo CD import that
requires no knowledge of Japanese.
