COMMODORE 64
The Commodore 64 was one of first computers for the home market and in many ways is still my favorite.

It had very good sound for the time, using the SID chip. Many software titles were made for the system, including excellent home versions of Donkey Kong, Moon Patrol, Mr Do!, and original games like Skate or Die, Summer Games, Ultimate Wizard, Test Drive, and Master of the Lamps.

Before the internet was consumer based, modems were readily available for home computers.

Bulletin boards, or BBS's, would have places for people to chat, download software, and—on the Commodore—view images via keyboard graphics.

One thing that Commodore and other early systems did, was offer computer systems within the price range of children. With today's PCs costing $1000 for a relatively supported system, it is not as easy for kids to learn programming and other computing skills.
